How to Wrap a Cellophane Gift Basket

Homemade jerky makes a great gift – even more so if packaged up in a pretty  gift basket.  And you can wrap up your own gift baskets with little trouble using some cellophane and pretty ribbon.

When wrapping your jerky gift basket be sure the jerky is properly sealed.  Vacuum sealers  are an excellent way to accomplish this.  (For more information on vacuum sealers, visit this link.)

You won’t need many supplies for creating your gift basket – but you will need the right size (width) cellophane.   The size of your basket will determine the width of cellophane you need.

Cellophane can be purchased in rolls and comes in different widths ranging from 24″ to 40″. You’ll also find that it’s available in many different colors and patterns.   Gift basket supplies are available on line from Amazon.

The materials you’ll need to have on hand before you start are:

  • Roll of cellophane
  • Scissors
  • Clear tape
  • Filled gift basket – ready to wrap

1. Cut a piece of cellophane large enough so that when you set the basket in the middle you will have an excess of 6-7 inches of cellophane beyond the top of the basket when the front and back pieces are brought together at the top. You can calculate the size of cellophane needed at 2-1/2 times the basket size. (Figure  1)

2.  Next secure the sides of the cellophane making sure the basket remains centered. To to this bring the cellophane together at the top, making sure the front and back are smooth; then use a piece of tape to hold both the left and right sides together at the edge of the basket making sure the tape is not visible.

3. On the bottom sides of the basket – below where you just secured the side seam – and where the cellophane is still open, fold the excess cellophane much like you would the ends of a gift wrap and then secure the triangular  fold with clear tape, again making sure the tape does not go above the lip of the basket. Repeat this process for the other side.   (Figure 2)

4. Pull the cellophane up to the top making sure the front and back ‘view’ remain straight and there is no slack.  Also check that the contents are still in order.

5. Fold a portion of the right top side of the cellophane to the back of the basket and using clear tape secure the fold to back. Repeat this process for the left side.   (Figure 3)

6. Gather the cellophane at the top in a bunch and secure with enough tape to go round the gather at least 1-1/2 times.   (Figure 4)

You are now ready to attach ribbons or any other decoration you might want.   If you would like to see an online video of this procedure, visit this link.
